While making this last painting of 2017, my eyes were filled with tears and my heart felt heavy. My father never saw any of my works but always believed I'll be an artist one day.
With his memories, I take the legacy forward. I'm sure he is always with me in spirit and I can feel his presence all around me.

As a little girl, I accompanied my mother on horse riding trips in the jungles of Kashmir. The rays of sunlight filtering through the tall trees fascinated me. The play of light is something I love to capture on my canvas.

Greatly inspired by the works of Monet, I enjoy capturing the appearance of the sea under the light of the sun.
The sea and the sky look like colors being mixed on a palette. The swirl of colors make you wonder if the sun is rising or setting.

All of the Sky is a stage for the dancing clouds. Such joy they bring to the eyes which gaze, forming shapes that constantly change.
I felt like a floating ballerina as I painted, joining the clouds in their performance.

With great force and passion, the wave sets out,
Driven by forces unknown to it ;
With great confidence, it rises and falls
To repeat its task in complete surrender

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition and of unspeakable love.

I am not worried about intimidating a man. The years of conforming to "being a lady" are behind me.The years of learning to sit still and look pretty, I have unlearnt. I stay determined, for I know my worth.

The mysterious face is an exterior to many untold stories.
Experiences of the past have chiseled my soul, creating a beauty within. As I learn and grow, I dare to stand out. The calm is my fearlessness.

Through the dark clouds, sunlight pours
Setting aglow the field's rows.
A little girl from the window watches,
As rays of light overpower the darkness.

Every cloud has a silver lining. Sometimes, when it rains, the silver lining pours.

True friends they are, the Moon and the Ocean, keeping each other company during the long nights. The Moonlight brightens the waves, adding color to its beauty. And when it is time to go, the Sea waits, knowing that in time she will have her friend back.
2016 | Oil on canvas | 20 X 20
The sun swirls away, making way for the moon.
The water dives into the pool as the hills watch this play.
2016 | Oil on canvas | 20 X 20
The ripples on the water mirror the clouds in the sky. So different yet so much alike, the sky and the sea are boundless.

The Ruby Hills is inspired by one of my father’s paintings created in the early 70’s. The sunlight plays hide and seek with the hills, colouring them yellow and orange.
January 2015 | Oil on canvas, 30"x24"
On a cold January night while driving from Big Sur to San Francisco, I was inspired by the moon in its full glory, bathing the ocean in its silver. The hills withstand the great force of the waves, turning the silver to gold.
April 2015 | Oil on canvas, 30" X 24"
The canvas beckoned me to paint the image I dreamt of. As I painted, the canvas spoke to me — encouraged me to create the mirage of a world that exists beyond the passage.

The dancing waves of the ocean speak differently in its many moods.
The warm embrace of the calm waves leaves the rock longing for more as the wave slowly slides away.
2015 | Oil on canvas, 36" X 24"
The wave comes aggressively towards the waiting rocks, angry that she has to make the journey. Yet, she passionately embraces the rock telling us about the dark depth of their relationship.
The artist dips the brush into her soul to depict the different moods of the sea.

The ocean is bathed in silver under the brilliance of the full moon.

Johnny my pet Chihuahua loved me more than I loved myself. He ran freely enjoying the spectacular views of the Fremont hills. In and out of sight, he played in the grass.Just before sunset, as I called him back home, he did not respond. I looked for him and called out but came no reply… I sat on the grass watching the sunset, waiting for him to come back …….
